My name is Ivy and my story is not the typical, "I planned my own wedding so I decided to become a wedding planner." My story is made for Reality Television. Make sure you ask me how I became a wedding planner when we meet. The Silk Veil has been in business for over 12 years and we have planned or coordinated over 500 weddings and events. Before becoming a wedding planner, I spent 15 years in Corporate America. Those jobs included working in claims, accounting, inventory and purchasing. I received my First Certification, Certified Bridal Consultant (PF/ABC), in 2008. My Second Certification is a Certified Wedding Planner (AA-WP which is American Academy of Wedding Professionals) which I received the following year. I am trained to teach the Wedding Planning Course written by AA-WP (American Academy of Wedding Professionals) In 2010, I formed the first North Carolina Chapter of the National Organization AAWP and I am their first NC President. I am RASP certified, ServSafe Certified, and a prior member of AA-WP (American Academy of Wedding Professionals) and ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants) The Silk Veil also produces Bridal Shows via Charlotte Area Bridal shows. My favorite part of the design phase is getting to know couples on a deeper level; their likes/dislikes, what makes them tick, their most memorable vacation, nicknames, least favorite color, you name it, I want to know about it. From there I work my gained knowledge about them (you!), both as a couple and individually, into the wedding design - my goal is for your guests to notice details on wedding day and instantly recognize the connection to you or your fiancé. Detail and logistically oriented, with a calm demeanor, my initial response to putting out a fire? "Let's first take a deep breath and think this through." The nitty gritty about my experience, I hold a degree in Hotel Management from Johnson & Wales University, where my course concentration was in Sales, Meetings, & Events. Through my education I had the pleasure of interning at one of Charlotte's most prestigious hotels where I spent time in the events, catering, group sales, front desk, and even housekeeping departments - I cannot tell you how often that firsthand experience has come into play over the past 10 years in the weddings & events industry. Additionally, I worked for another wedding planner to gain firsthand knowledge and begin building relationships with other creatives before launching Southern Savvy in 2011. I am a Charlotte native and yes, a diehard Panther fan. You will never see me wearing anything but Panther garb on a Sunday during football season (the best time of year, in my opinion). My closet consists of primarily Anthropologie, Free People, Madewell, with a bit of lulu and Patagonia mixed in for good measure. My boyfriend, Ryan, and I are "those crazy dog people". Blame it on foster failing, big hearts, or maybe just wanting to make sure there's never a dull moment (probably a combination of those), but we have three dogs who stole our hearts - follow along with Southern Savvy on instagram, they frequently make cameos. The Lowcountry of South Carolina is my personal slice of heaven and craft beer is an art form. Nature is a driving force in my design style and when I'm not executing a wedding my weekends are usually spent outside embracing it - whether that be on a trail, by the ocean, on the patio of a brewery or just cruising on my bike, I love to be outdoors.

As a completely “type A” girl’s girl I fell in love with the journey of marriage, and am honored that I am able to form such deep connections with so many incredible women like you at this very special time in your life. While I love a beautiful event, to me a strong and healthy marriage is the goal of any wedding celebration. I am also is a lover of “pretty things” meaning that planning is a natural fit for my personality and my classic, elegant aesthetic. But I was the little girl who had her wedding fully planned before I turned five! I love all things related to weddings, including wedding movies, books, magazines, and Pinterest boards. Choosing wedding colors, flowers or designs all make my heart sing! My heart flutters and I get teary-eyed when brides walk down the aisle to join their spouse in marriage. Born and raised in Illinois, I moved to North Carolina in 2009, after graduating with a Sociology Degree from NIU. I have northern roots, but I am a southerner by heart. I enjoy sitting in rocking chairs on my porch and sipping lemonade. I am in love with decorating my house, crafting and scrap booking. I also love to travel internationally and to collect handmade dolls from every country I visit. I am obsessed with anywhere in Europe, particularly Italy.
