We are Mesa’s Premier Tattoo Shop and Body Piercing Studio. Leave bandage on for 3 days Remove bandage, wash thoroughly with warm water and soap. Make sure to clean the area of all blood and plasma. Pat dry with a clean towel. Apply a thin layer of scent/dye free lotion. Wash and moisturize 2-3 times a day until healed. No swimming, tanning, or hot tubs for 2 weeks. (It is going to itch, this is your skin healing, do not scratch; You will damage the tattoo.) Your tattoo will go through different stages of healing (e.g Scabbing, flaking, peeling) it is all normal, let it come off on its own; don’t panic or pick at it. Expect your tattoo to go through a phase called “The Uglies” where it will look old and faded–this is a normal part of the healing process. If you have any concerns or questions about your tattoo please don’t hesitate to call, our goal is for you to have a great healing tattoo. After 3-4 weeks, once the tattoo is healed we can take a look at it to see how it has healed, if you are in any need of touch-ups we can do that for you free of charge (excluding hand and foot tattoos). Dennis Dwyer, a tattooist for 49 years, has turned his love for tattooing into a thriving business. He began collecting tattoos while in the Naval Seabees during the Vietnam War. How with tattoos covering 90 percent of his body, Dwyer is the real thing. Plus, he saw it as a way to make a living. “In reality, anyone can do a tattoo,’ Dwyer said. “But how well it’s done and whether they have an artistic art background. “It’s not easy to do. The canvas is not consistent, and in this era of diseases, a tattoo artist must take proper tattooing procedures and sterilization methods seriously.” Dennis Dwyer believes you must have integrity, accountability, and compassion when running a tattoo business. Grape Ape Tattoo opened in 2008 as Rogue Parlour Tattoo, when James Peterson and Mark Pierce ended up stranded without a shop after the chaotic destruction of Bert’s Classic Tattoo, where they had been working under the world-famous tattooer Bert Rodriguez. Bert was known for operating the Tattoos and Blues convention and being a staple of tattooing in Santa Rosa, CA. Tattooing under the banner of Bert was a huge honor, and James and Mark wished the experience could have lasted but circumstances cut that privilege short. After reaching out to Danny DeRosa, a long-time New York tattooer also known for Smoking Guns Tattoo (and James’ uncle), James and Mark set up a small shop out of the way and grew from there, setting out on their mission to provide quality tattoos to the world. Mark is an artists whose talents and interests extend into many fields including soap, music, and locksmithing in addition to tattoos.
