LOGAN Hope is a Christ-centered K-8 school that provides rigorous, holistic education for under-resourced students in the Logan neighborhood of Philadelphia. We are committed to helping individuals and families who struggle daily with the effects of poverty and seek to transform our community by equipping our students for academic success through character and leadership development. To achieve this, we execute three main programs: a Christ-centered K-8 school, an after-school program, and a summer day camp program. All three programs provide rigorous, holistic education for under-resourced students in our neighborhood. In 1991, Ken and Anita MacBain moved into a declining Philadelphia neighborhood marked by poverty and crime in order to serve an extremely at-risk community of refugees who had escaped the genocide of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. The need in this community was staggering. The MacBains ministered to this community in every way they could, including teaching English, providing affordable housing, and running after-school programs and day camps for children. After watching child after child drop out of school and turn to gangs or drug dealing, it became apparent that in order for these children to succeed, there would need to be a school designed to meet their specific needs. LOGAN Hope was officially founded by the MacBains as a non-profit in 2000 with that goal in mind. In 2002, LOGAN Hope School opened its doors to 17 students in Kindergarten to 4th grade. In the years since then, LOGAN Hope School has grown to serve 93 students in grades K-8.
