Doing well in the traditional school setting is one thing, but I didn’t really get energized about learning until my MBA program. It was then that I experienced what it was like to work with others who wanted to be a part of something greater. The professors expected much from us, and we were rewarded for our ingenuity. Jeff Sandefer, founder of Acton Academy, was one of those professors and he became a mentor for me. So when he mentioned to me one day about this new school he and his wife Laura were developing, I instinctively knew I wanted this for my own kids. It wasn’t until I visited his pilot program in Austin, TX that I became fully convinced. The students had a totally different demeanor than at a typical school. They were busy, engaged, and fully in charge of their own learning and their own community. While planning and building Acton ABQ, I’ve interacted with over a dozen other amazing and visionary leaders who are launching Acton Academy schools from California to Kuala Lumpur. We all share a common belief that our students are capable of much more than most people ever expect of them and that given the opportunity to find their own Hero’s Journey, they will engage in incredible ways and change the world.

Albuquerque Academy is a non-denominational, coeducational, independent day school for approximately 1,150 students in grades six through 12. The Academy offers students an education that is without equal in the Southwest. The Academy prides itself on offering an educational program based on creative, independent doing and thinking. The school motto, “scientia ad faciendum,” or “knowledge for the sake of doing,” reflects an underlying philosophy of achieving knowledge that is actionable. The Academy’s educational program emphasizes six fundamental academic disciplines: English, history, mathematics, world languages, science, and performing and visual arts. Study in all six disciplines is required each year through grade 9. A decreasing number of requirements in the upper grades allows for a wider choice of electives. Students are organized by grade into three divisions: grades 6-7, grades 8-9, and grades 10-12. These groupings allow for small, close-knit, and nurturing environments able to serve the needs and interests of all students. Each division provides students with a comfortable, supportive atmosphere in which to learn and thrive. The three divisions often come together for all-school assemblies and school-wide activities. The Academy’s 312-acre main campus includes the West Campus (grades 6-7), and the East Campus (grades 8-12).

Why choose Immanuel Lutheran School? ILS is committed to providing your child with a quality Christian education. More importantly Immanuel Lutheran School allows your child to study God’s Word daily, to see how it relates to other areas of the curriculum and incorporate that message into his or her daily life. A committed congregation, a dedicated faculty and staff, supportive parents, caring students, and a family atmosphere make ILS a place where your child can grow in knowledge and faith. Immanuel Lutheran School is accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation program and the state of New Mexico. ILS was also recognized in 2007 as a Blue-Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The faculty members are all licensed teachers most by the State of New Mexico and continue to take classes and workshops that help them grow in their profession. The curriculum follows or exceeds state curriculum guidelines and challenges students to grow academically, physically, emotionally, and most importantly spiritually. At Immanuel Lutheran School we view Christian education as a partnership between home and school. We believe that we must work together with our families to ensure that God’s children are nourished spiritually through the use of God’s Word daily in the classroom. We also believe that the children placed in our care must be nourished academically through a challenging curriculum that recognizes each child as a unique individual with different gifts, and abilities, and needs that must be identified and developed. Praises to God are lifted up in band and choir classes, and through our weekly chapel services. Finally, God’s children are nourished physically through a well-planned physical education curriculum and the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular sports. For over nine decades the congregation of Immanuel Lutheran Church has a history of supporting Christian education, “Teaching a Changeless Christ to a Changing World”. The members of Immanuel Lutheran Church support Christian education with their time, talents, and treasures. We want you and your child to know and understand what Immanuel Lutheran School is all about before you make a decision. We feel that our program will speak for itself. We wish you and your family God’s blessing as you make this most important decision, and if it is His Will, look forward to the privilege of serving you and your child in the future. Yours in Christ, Michael Brandon – Principal As you consider a school home for your child, we encourage you to visit Immanuel Lutheran School. Abundant Life Christian School, a private Christian school in Albuquerque's Southwest Valley, began in 1989. We exist to provide a stable Christian environment for students whose parents are serious about wanting their children to have high academics with Spiritual guidance and instruction. An individualized curriculum, low teacher/student ratios, and a nurturing environment have produced Spiritually mature, mission minded, Christ followers. The churches and the school have a non-discriminatory policy and therefore shall not discriminate against members, applicants, students, or staff based on color, race, nationality, or ethnic origin. ALCS uses the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum (School of Tomorrow). The A.C.E. curriculum has been tried and proven to be very effective in providing all the basic academic disciplines as well as instilling Godly character into the lives of students. Individualized, mastery-based learning which develops critical-thinking makes A.C.E. the perfect curriculum for ALCS. Teaching a child is more than just "academics." Besides a Bible-based curriculum, ALCS implements daily devotions, Scripture memorization, Godly character trait emphasis, and encourages Christ-like behavior. Our highly trained educators are affecting eternity, one student at a time! At ALCS, we encourage our students to care for their physical bodies and remember that they are the temple of the Holy Spirit. P.E. is a regular part of our curriculum; junior high and high school students are encouraged to connect with other Christian school teams if we do not have enough students for a particular sport.
