    Florida Christian School

In June of 1968, a group of Christian parents met together and prayed that God would direct them in the establishment of a new Christian school in Miami. From that meeting came a ground swell of support that led to the purchase of a church building and surrounding property which was to become Florida Christian School. Florida Christian was established as a Christian school with a family atmosphere. Our curriculum is Christ-centered rather than man-centered, making Christ preeminent in every aspect of the educational program. It is a school where parental involvement is high and teachers are known to be loving and caring toward their students. Even though there has been significant growth through the years, the same loving spirit still characterizes the school. From the first one hundred original students to the over eleven hundred of today, a common thread of pride in the school is blended with their appreciation for the faculty and staff who sacrificially have ministered to their students and to the community throughout the years. Our mission is to develop well rounded students through excellent academics and extracurricular activities, while seeking to win the lost to Christ and equip Christians with the skills and the knowledge to change the world for Christ.

    The Roig Academy

This past year, The Roig Academy celebrated its 20th year serving children and youth in the Miami-Dade community as a private education school. Since its inception, The Roig Academy has been providing an alternative educational milieu for students with a variety of learning strengths and areas of need while preparing them to be lifelong learners of the 21st century. The Roig Academy’s vision was the cumulative product between The Roig Academy’s founding Director Jennifer Roig and the learning community which it serves. In many years, that vision defined The Roig Academy as having a hands-on approach to teaching and learning for families who were seeking the best educational opportunities for their children. The Roig Academy opened its doors in 2000 with a few dedicated employees, yet it was those impassioned few employees who were guided by the original vision to deliver services unmatched by any other alternative. The drive to provide students with a hands-on and balanced approach to education shaped how all services at The Roig Academy would be delivered and the role of each member within its organization. Today, The Roig Academy provides educational services to a large population of students with a variety of learning strengths and needs and continues to offer a balanced, best practice approach to education. While The Roig Academy maintains the highest commitment to its vision established at its inception, The Roig Academy’s reach and impact continue to forge new territory beyond that original vision. Our dedication to providing exceptional educational opportunities in Miami by creating students who are reflective, risk-takers, inquirers and lifelong learners remains our highest priority. However, that dedication extends to the ways in which we work with our stakeholders, collaborate with multidisciplinary services, help our community grow, innovate and evolve into the future as responsible citizens of a global community, as is the goal with all IB World Schools. We celebrate The Roig Academy Academy’s approach to teaching and learning as we nurture student growth in the 21st century.

    Gulliver Prep

Established in 1926 by Arthur Gulliver in Coconut Grove, Gulliver School was likened to the prestigious academies of the Northeast, initially attracting families who spent the winter months in Florida. By the early 1950s, Gulliver School had seen better times, and Marian Krutulis purchased the fledgling school from the Gulliver family. What she would accomplish over the next 60 years stands alone in the chronicles of educational leadership. A pioneer in education, Mrs. Krutulis envisioned Gulliver as a grand home where both students and teachers would feel part of a caring, inspiring family of learners. She established Gulliver’s mission to create an academic community devoted to educational excellence, with a personal touch, that fulfills each student’s potential. She relocated the school to Coral Gables, establishing Gulliver Academy. In 1977, Gulliver Preparatory School graduated its first class of high school students, and a new high school campus in Pinecrest was opened in 1978. Under her leadership, Gulliver achieved Blue Ribbon School of Excellence designation by the U.S. Department of Education, earning its distinction as a premier educational institution. Desiring to see Gulliver successful long into the future, after nearly 50 years of growth and advancement as one of the most successful for-profit private schools in Florida, Mrs. Krutulis transitioned the school to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution in 2000. She remained actively involved as Director Emerita until her passing in 2013. Mrs. Krutulis’ incredible 60 years of leadership built, shaped, and grew Gulliver into a premier independent school, recognized internationally for excellence. Today, Gulliver Preparatory School serves 2,200 students in grades PK-12 on three campuses, still guided by the mission first established by Mrs. Krutulis.

    Brito Miami Private School

Our institution is a coeducational bilingual private school founded with the objective of integrating all of its members within this great American Society. As a basic principle, our school will give students an opportunity to develop moral, social and democratic values on an intellectual level during their daily activities. We believe in a strong education, which requires that students make a determined effort to take every opportunity toward their own fulfillment as an individual and a member of the community. Our founder, Dr. Antonio Brito continued his family legacy of educating our youth. He was the second member of the founding family of the prestigious school “Academia Brito” in Havana, Cuba and later became the Principal of “Colegio El Alba” in Caracas, Venezuela. The legacy continues still today. In 1984, Brito Miami Private School first opened its doors in Miami, Florida. Since then, it has grown strong and is well known among the educational community for academic excellence and college preparation. The Florida Department of Education recognizes this institution as a non-public, nonreligious accredited school. We are fully accredited by AdvancED/SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and School, COBIS (Council of Bilingual School) and we are affiliated to ISSF (Independent Schools of South Florida), BIPRISA (Bilingual Private School Association), DAANS (Dade Association of Non-Public School), NHS (National Honor Society), NASC (National Association of Student Council) and the FHSAA (Florida High School Activities Association). Brito Miami Private School is dedicated to providing academic excellence, community involvement and cultural development. We form young people, committed to fulfilling the values and democratic necessities of this nation. As a school family member, we encourage you to take advantage of all the opportunities offered by the school. Our administrators and faculty members look forward in assisting you with any questions or concerns. Highpoint Academy

Highpoint Academy’s mission is to provide an excellent all-around education in a nurturing, safe and structured environment tailored to develop and enhance the unique talents and abilities of each individual child. By promoting academic excellence, character, imagination, innovation and creative thinking, we hope to foster successful, lifelong learners who will be future leaders. We believe that each child is unique and therefore, teachers must focus on stimulating and encouraging each child's' strengths as much as possible. We provide a challenging curriculum with flexibility to meet the needs of each student and an enriching program that encourages critical thinking, scientific exploration, physical fitness, hands-on learning and good citizenship. Teachers are instructed to identify and recognize each of their student's "Learning Styles" early in the school year. Teachers then use motivational teaching methods in order to address each students learning preference. Using Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Theory as a basis, teachers are also encouraged to focus on identifying each students' smart parts so that each child's strengths are stimulated. Our teachers are expected to tailor their teaching to each student, not to a class average. When a child succeeds, there is a personal recognition that reinforces that "winning" feeling. Conscious of the characteristics pertaining to the origin, language and culture of the majority of our students, our bilingual faculty makes it easier for Hispanic children to assimilate into the American culture. In addition, we cater to the Hispanic families by maintaining their many customs and cultural values. Spanish is a required subject in the Elementary and Middle School grades. We enable our students to become fully bilingual and to learn about their heritage through numerous activities and events. Since we believe that a person's "character" is essential for success in life, we have designed a "Character Education" program which is integrated with our Social Studies Curriculum. Here, teachers and students thoroughly cover two different "core values" each month. These include: trustworthiness & responsibility; citizenship & democracy; caring & kindness, courage & pursuit of excellence; respect & self-control; honesty & integrity; courtesy & manners; and fairness & cooperation. In addition, teachers continuously stress the importance of ethics, proper etiquette and morals throughout each core subject. Highpoint provides a safe family environment in which all our students can explore ideas and feelings. We offer the guidance that ensures our children will not get lost in the process of this exploration. We consider our school to be an extension of the family.

    The Cushman School

Imagine the rustle of palm fronds and book pages as Dr. Laura Cushman rolled up her sleeves to start an altogether different type of school. She had 12 students. She was a seasoned educator and a passionate idealist. She had a “can-do” attitude shaped by her Midwestern upbringing and a spirit of entrepreneurship that matched Miami’s, then as well as now. Hers would be a school where pedagogy could sit alongside laughter and joy in the classroom – where teachers would say “listening” instead of say “hush,” and children could learn by their own joyful doing. Today, Cushman has over 750 students from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. With an almost century-long proven-track record for innovation, our school has moved from the front porch to the forefront of excellence. The mission of The Cushman School is to develop all students as responsible citizens and effective future leaders who maintain a positive approach to life. The educational environment at our school fosters in students the qualities of virtue, responsibility, respect for self and others and nurtures the student in intellectual, physical and spiritual growth. The Cushman School takes a personalized approach to educating each student to ensure he/she reaches his/her fullest potential. In following Dr. Cushman’s philosophy, the faculty and administration are committed to identifying and understanding the unique “gifts” within each child and planning age-appropriate educational journeys. In order to connect with students and offer individualized instruction, small student-to-teacher ratios and ample teacher assistance are evident. To this end, our School continues to develop confident, creative and critical thinkers who exhibit tremendous leadership and strength of character in the various fields they pursue.
