I created West Magnolia Plastic Surgery, PA 13 years ago and have been blessed to see my practice grow and change through the years. The Max Mehl building was erected in 1916 by Max Mehl, a famous coin collector or ‘numismatist’ with a prominent list of clienteles including Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Amon Carter. My office space is appropriate clinical but I was not willing to compromise the historic beauty within…exposed brick, period appropriate finishes including tin ceiling tiles and vintage light fixtures. At the time I acquired the space, I was faced with the decision to take the entire first floor of the building but feared at the time ‘I would never be that busy’. I have regretted that decision for almost 8 years… The space that is now The Retreat is the front corner of the first floor, facing the Magnolia and Henderson intersection. The floor is the original honeycomb tile on the slab of the building: my favorite aspect of the entire first floor. When the opportunity to take over the space came to me, planning for what it would become was already underway. Construction allowed the two spaces to be connected via a hallway and while construction was progressing, I found myself routinely retreating over there to savor the addition and dream about what it was to become.
