Over the next few years the organization grew but World War II interrupted the business operations. After the war, since the founder was stationed at NAS Millington, Greenscape resumed business in Memphis with a three-acre nursery on Summer Avenue. By concentrating on custom landscape planting and maintenance, Greenscape developed a loyal clientele that kept returning for individualized, high quality landscape services.
Greenscape expanded to include a ten-acre nursery in Bartlett, Tennessee. Then, in 1952, recognizing a need for growing what were then unavailable specimen trees and shrubs, Greenscape acquired a 60-acre nursery in Arlington, Tennessee. Realizing the need to blend the skill of the professional designer with the skill of the horticultural craftsman to produce a better product, Greenscape added landscape architecture to the services provided by the firm in 1956.
In 1969 complete landscape irrigation services, the first in the Mid-South region, was introduced. Recognizing the need to maintain these more sophisticated landscapes, particularly with of the advent of pest control which introduced potentially deadly chemicals, landscape management was added in the 70s. Later, we were the first to introduce Seasonal Color to Memphis. In the 80s, to fill a need for coordination of all the exterior site development, particularly of large-scale, high-end residential work, Hardsape was created. Thus, all elements of landscaping were in place.
To insure diversity of exposure to ever-changing landscape trends and knowledge, Greenscape chose to be a design/build company and a competitive bidder for the work of all outstanding landscape architect firms. In early 1990, all services of Greenscape were expanded and the principle office and growing nursery was moved to the current location, 7902 Hwy 70 in Bartlett.
Into the new century Greenscape honed its landscape and irrigation installation skills while being involved in several large projects in our area like, Wolfchase Mall, Sam’s Town, The Grand Casino’s and Avenue Carriage Crossing which also grew our landscape property maintenance client base as well allowing us to take care of a property from the “ground up”.
